Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we get asked most often. Can't find what you're looking for? Write to us: info@marecalmo.app.

How reliable are the forecasts?

The forecasts are produced by professional marine weather models and give an excellent indication of the trend. They should, however, be read as a forecast, not as a precise metre-by-metre measurement. The closer you get to the day, the more accurate they become. For your safety, always check the actual conditions on site and the instructions of the Harbour Master's Office.

How often is the data updated?

The data is recalculated automatically every 3 hours (8 updates per day). You can find the time of the last update in the "Today" summary (and at the top of the app on wide screens).

What area does MareCalmo cover?

The coasts of Puglia, on both the Ionian and Adriatic sides, with hundreds of beaches, swimmable rocky shores and lidos. We also include points of interest such as dive schools, rentals and charters, which you can show or hide from the filters.

What do the colours and scores mean?

Each location has a daily score that summarises sea, water, sun, air and wind for the chosen activity: the higher it is, the more suitable the day. For details on the 5 sea states, wind and wave types, read the Guide.

Do I need to create an account?

No. MareCalmo is free and requires no registration. Your preferences (activity, filters, distance) are saved only in your browser.

Can I install it on my phone?

Yes. MareCalmo is a Progressive Web App: from the browser menu you can choose "Add to Home Screen" and use it like an app, with quick startup and operation even with a weak signal thanks to offline caching.

Why do I see advertising?

The ads, delivered through Google AdSense, cover the costs of maintaining the service and allow us to keep it free. You can manage consent and personalisation: see the Cookie Policy and the Privacy Policy.

Where does the data come from?

From the forecasts of Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0) and the cartography of OpenStreetMap. More details in About us.
