Calm sea between Jesolo and Caorle today: the most peaceful beaches

Fifteen kilometres of golden sand at Jesolo, the fishing town of Caorle with its sculpted breakwater and, in between, the pine wood of Eraclea Mare: the upper Adriatic here means wide beaches and a seabed that slopes ever so gently.

The coast between Jesolo and Caorle

Jesolo's beach runs for 15 kilometres from the mouth of the Sile to that of the Piave, between 30 and 100 metres wide, with a shallow seabed that slopes gently: the ideal setting with children. Next comes Eraclea Mare, tucked between the pine wood planted on the dunes in the 1920s and the Laguna del Mort. Caorle combines 18 kilometres of shoreline with a Venetian-flavoured old town around its still-active fishing port; on the sea wall, the boulders of the «Scogliera viva» are carved by the artists of the biennial competition. Behind it all, the lagoon with the fishermen's casoni.

When the sea is calm between Jesolo and Caorle

The coast faces south-east: as everywhere on the upper Adriatic, it is the bora, sweeping down from the north-east, and the sirocco from the south-east that raise the waves, while the ponente and the tramontana come off the land and smooth the water close to shore. In summer the breezes set the rhythm: in the morning the sea is usually at its smoothest, in the afternoon it ruffles up with short wind waves.
