Calm sea at the Lidi di Comacchio today: the most peaceful beaches

Seven lidos in a row inside the Po Delta Park: at the Lidi di Comacchio the beach is wide, the sand is fine and the water stays shallow for a long way out, with pine woods and birdwatching lagoons right behind the shore.

The coast of the Lidi di Comacchio

From Lido di Volano to Lido di Spina the seven lidos follow one another for about 25 kilometres, all inside the Po Delta Park. Volano is the quietest and most natural, wrapped in pine forest; Lido delle Nazioni has an inland lake used for sailing and windsurfing; Porto Garibaldi is the old fishing village, its canal port still active; Estensi and Spina combine broad beaches, pines and evening life. The seabed slopes very gently: shallow water for a long way out, easy with children.

When the sea is calm at the Lidi di Comacchio

The delta coast faces east: as along the whole Emilia-Romagna shoreline, it is the bora and the sirocco that raise the waves, while winds from the west and south-west blow off the land and leave the sea quiet close to shore. On these open beaches the time of day matters too: in the morning, before the breeze picks up, the water is usually smoother than in the afternoon.
