A sand dune some twenty kilometres long, coastal lakes behind it and the Circeo promontory closing the horizon: the shoreline of the Circeo National Park is the wildest stretch of the Pontine coast.

The coast between Sabaudia and San Felice Circeo
The park's coastal dune runs for about 22 kilometres and reaches 27 metres in height, with the fine-sand beach on one side and the coastal lakes on the other: the best known is Lake Paola, the lake of Sabaudia. To the south Monte Circeo rises to 541 metres and falls into the sea with its unmistakable profile; at its foot lies San Felice Circeo. The National Park, established in 1934, is among Italy's oldest; the area is windy and loved by surfers, windsurfers and kiters.
When the sea is calm between Sabaudia and the Circeo
The dune beach looks out onto the open sea to the south: with the libeccio and the sirocco the waves come in straight, which is exactly why surfers like it here. With the tramontana, blowing off the land, the water smooths out close to shore. The Circeo promontory creates better-protected corners depending on the wind direction. On summer mornings, before the breeze, the sea is usually at its best.
