Calm sea in Stintino today: the most peaceful beaches

The Stintino coast

On Sardinia's north-western tip, La Pelosa is a crescent of ultra-fine sand with a seabed so shallow it feels like a natural pool; in front stand the Torre della Pelosa, documented before 1578, and the outlines of Isola Piana and the Asinara. Access to the beach is capped and paid in season. Along the gulf of Asinara follow the beaches of Le Saline and Ezzi Mannu, longer and quieter, between pebbles and sand.

When the sea is calm in Stintino

Stintino faces the Sea of Sardinia, the island's side exposed to the maestrale: when it blows hard from the north-west you really feel the wind here. La Pelosa's fortune is the natural barrier of Isola Piana and the Asinara, which dampens the waves and keeps the water of the strait calmer than the wind would suggest. With winds from the south and east, blowing off the land, the whole gulf smooths out.
